Welcome. Welcome back. I don’t usually put a photo of myself in the header, but it’s fashion month, so here’s a throwback. Photographer Matthew Kristall shot this at the pre-reno Chelsea Hotel, on the bed where Madonna and Sean Penn once honeymooned. In my eight years as a womenswear designer, we showed there twice. Stanley, the hotel’s infamous gatekeeper, somehow let us pull it off. I still don’t know how. The place was crawling with permanent residents, most of them furious about models, editors, and hair teams taking over the halls. One supportive resident happened to be Vogue editor, Sally Singer. She always made an appearance, back when having Vogue at your show was the only stamp of success that mattered. Jerome is in Louis Vuitton and I’m wearing Doucette Duvall Zsa Zsa Dress circa 2007.
